We have now completed the first six-day cycle and we are off to a great start.  I am really looking forward to working with all of the band students this year!

Grade 7 band students who did not attend the summer band camp will have a class on Monday, September 17th from 12:35-1:15.  Information will be provided at this time regarding a mini-camp ($10.00/student) which has been organized for these students from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 21.  This session is for students from Birchwood and Stonepark who were not able to attend band camp.   We will offer small group instruction for flute, clarinet, trumpet, and low brass.  Pizza will be provided.

Full band rehearsals for grade 7 students will begin next Monday.

Grade 8 and grade 9 early morning band rehearsals will begin this week.  Grade 9 rehearsals will be held on Tuesday, September 18th,  and Friday, September 21st, and the grade 8 rehearsal will be held on Thursday, September 20th.  Students are asked to arrive at Stonepark by 7:35 a.m.   Rehearsals will begin in the band room at 7:45 a.m. sharp!

Jazz Band rehearsals will be held this year on Tuesdays from 3:10-4:30.  A sign-up sheet has been posted in the band room.  The first Jazz Band rehearsal will be held next Tuesday (September 25th).

A sign-up sheet has also been posted in the band room for grade 8 saxophone auditions.

All band students must return signed instrument assignment forms by the end of this week.

Welcome back to school!

It was great to see so many Stonepark students at band camp and I’m really looking forward to another great year of music-making at Stonepark.

Playing an instrument with a group is what band is all about so all band students are required to attend all scheduled rehearsals and concerts.  Please provide a note or send an e-mail (in advance if possible) if you are unable to attend rehearsals for any reason.

Thank you for your past and future support in providing transportation for your children to early morning band classes!

 School Supplies for Band Classes

Students are asked to please bring the following supplies to band classes:

-a pencil

-a ½ inch binder

-10 protective plastic sleeves (for 3 ring binders)

Students might also consider purchasing a music stand to facilitate home practice.

Early Morning Band Cancellation Policy

Should a rehearsal be canceled, an announcement will be made at school the day before or on the radio in the morning. An announcement will also be posted on the band blog.  On stormy mornings please ensure that there are no cancellations or delays before leaving for band practice.  School cancellations and delays result in cancellation of early morning practices.

I am looking forward to another great year working with the Stonepark band students!
