Schedule on a ONE-HOUR DELAY

A one hour delay has been announced for PEI Honors Band rehearsals today.

We will now begin at 9:30 this morning at Queen Charlotte and end at 9:30 pm at the Delta.

As the blog post below states, please make safety your primary consideration when making travel decisions today.

The following notice has been posted on the Honors Band blog:
We are proceeding with our scheduled rehearsals today with a 1 hour delay.

This means students need to be dropped off AND picked up tonight 1 hour later then what is posted on the schedule (Pick Students up at the Delta tonight).

There will also be rehearsal Sunday morning at Queen Charlotte School to make up for Friday night’s lost time. The times of the rehearsal will be determined during the day today and shared with band members before they leave tonight.
**PLEASE NOTE While we want to start practicing at 10:00 AM this morning, safety is paramount, we realize people driving greater distances may be delayed, please arrive safely when you can.

Grade 9 Honors Band 2016

On Sunday, January 31st, the PEI Intermediate Honors Band will present a concert at 2 pm at the Prince Edward Island Convention Centre with special guest, the UPEI Wind Symphony, under the direction of Karem J. Simon.
The Honors Band is an annual event for the most dedicated grade nine band students on the island. They come together, rehearse for a weekend with a guest conductor, and present a program of challenging music for an appreciative audience. This year’s guest conductor is Rowan Fitzgerald.  The event is special because it brings together students from 16 intermediate island schools for an enriched, music-making experience.

As part of this year’s concert, we honour Windsor Wight, principal of East Wiltshire Intermediate School, who was recently awarded a PRINCIPAL of MUSIC AWARD from the Coalition for Music Education. This award is given to supremely active principals doing an outstanding job for their school communities by supporting music education.

Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Don’t miss out!

Early AM Band

Just a reminder that early a.m. band is cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday this week (Jamuary 20-21).

Due to the French immersion trip, grade 9 early a.m. band rehearsals are also cancelled next week.

Playing test update

Grade 8 and 9 students have a playing test due on Monday, January 18.  As always, playing tests can be completed at school during lunch break or after school on or before the due date.  Students may make an appointment to perform for me in person, or they may record the test on the iPad in the band area.

Students who choose to submit videos of their playing tests can now submit a link to their video in  Google classroom.  Step-by-step instructions have been reviewed and practiced in the computer lab.  “How-to” videos outlining the steps for submitting video links from lap-top or desktop computers and mobile phones or tablets have also been posted under “Google Classroom” on the band blog menu above.

Grade 7 students have a test due on Monday, January 25. They may also play the test in person, record it on the iPad at school, or submit a link to their video in Google Classsroom.

*Due to the storm day this week, two grade 7 classes (7EC and 7AG) had to be rescheduled in the computer lab.  They will have their Google classroom sessions in the lab on Monday.

Students who need extra help in submitting their assignments in Google classroom are welcome to set up a time when I can take them through the steps again.
